Thank you to all those who download the book today, tomorrow, a year from now, etc! I hope you enjoy.
I finished the first draft of my post-apocalyptic kaiju novel IN THE SHADOW OF EXTINCTION just the other day. WOO! I mean, yeah, it’s only the first draft and there is still much more work left to do, but it’s not every day that you finish writing a book, ya know?
This is the biggest book I’ve ever written – at approximately 680 pages, it’s about twice the length of my previous novel Death’s Good Intentions.
I love Godzilla and other kaiju films and so I wanted to give the genre my own take. With most kaiju films and fiction, the monster is either beaten or retreats back to the ocean before the end of the story. In my story, the monsters win and they never leave, making our world their own. It’s an epic tale, spanning many years, as man must come to terms with his new role in the shadows of the massive predators that now walk the planet.
Initial thoughts after completing the first draft: the story turned out pretty much how I wanted it to. It covers a whole lot of territory and brings some new themes to the kaiju genre, which I hope that fellow fans will appreciate. I know there are many things that I need to fix for the second draft – I’m already making my list – but I like the story. I think it’s gonna be a cool book.
I’m still aiming for a late 2014 release date. I’ll let you know when I have something more concrete.
Keep checking back here for future updates!
The Man with the Devil's Tongue is now FREE for Kindle at Amazon.com
Thanks to all those who helped with the price match. I appreciate it!
As of right now, the ebook is only free at the US Amazon site. Over at Amazon.co.uk and other countries the book still shows the price of approx. $0.99. If you use the price matching tool on Amazon.co.uk and ask them to match Amazon.com's price it should speed up the process to make the book free across the pond.
Thanks again for all your help!
So excited about the return of Twin Peaks. Awesome awesome awesome. Can’t wait! Guess I gotta sign up for Showtime in 2016, heh.
I first watched the show on DVD many years after it originally aired. So, I haven’t had to wait the full 25 years for new episodes. Still, I never really thought this would ever actually happen.
It’s interesting that David Lynch and Showtime are announcing this as a limited series with a total of 9 episodes. Part of me wants more because, you know, a fan always wants more. But then I remember how much better the first season of Twin Peaks was compared to the second, and I’m reminded of how much shorter the first season was. So perhaps the series is at its best with limited episodes and a more constrained plot structure. Either way, I trust Lynch and Frost to know what they’re doing. And I’m eager to see what the show will be like on Showtime. Seriously, watch some of the old episodes, there are moments so chilling that it’s a wonder how they ever aired on network TV in the 90s. It’ll be interesting if Showtime allows Lynch and Frost to kick it up a notch and get really freaky.
So many questions.
I’m frickin happy about this news.
